9: Wigan RSPB Local Group Big Twitch Day – teams compete to observe the greatest number of species. More details at www.rspb.org.uk/groups/wigan

10: New Year guided walk, Lakenheath Fen RSPB, 10.15am-1pm. Kickstart the new year and burn off some of those Christmas calories! 21: Improving Birders, Titchwell Marsh RSPB, 9.30am. Aimed at people looking to improve their birding skills – a slide show about equipment and bird ID, followed by some birding.
